Minesto begins commissioning of second “Dragon 4” tidal power plant

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, September 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The second Dragon-class tidal power station “Dragon 4” has now arrived at Minesto’s grid-connected site in Vestmanna, Faroe Islands. Commissioning of this plant has now begun and it will greatly benefit from the previous configuration tests performed with the first unit.

“As we currently commission the second ‘Dragon 4’ unit, it is with vital experience of profitable onshore and offshore operations. At Vestmanna we have created a flexible setup, where a small team can assemble and launch the stag -flying in hours, virtually in any tidal condition. This operating methodology can be transferred to any location,” said the doctor Martin EdlundCEO of Minesto.

“At first glance, the two ‘Dragon 4’ kites appear identical, although a few upgrades have been implemented as part of the product development process. There are only three months between installation of these two units, and it is satisfying to note that this short period of time is sufficient to evaluate, decide, install and test upgrades before delivery. This also highlights the manufacturability of our technology,” said Bernt Erik WestreCTO of Minesto.
